Mandatory Spending

Federal entitlement programs, such as Social Security, Medicare, and welfare benefits, comprise the bulk of federal mandatory spending. Other mandatory programs include Income Security Programs such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Supplemental Security Income, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and Unemployment Insurance.
