Total Government Debt

Is the total amount of US government debt outstanding including both public debt and intragovernmental debt. Public debt includes debt held by individuals, businesses, banks, insurance companies, state and local governments, pension funds, mutual funds, foreign governments, foreign businesses and individuals, and the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, whereas intragovernmental debt includes Social Security Trust Fund, Medicare Trust Fund, FDIC Deposit Insurance, the Highway Trust Fund, etc.
